16. A Sad New Year's Eve

A Sad New Year's Eve

Jamie was the first to peep in at 'Rosie' (our sick little chicken) this morning and to our delight she had beaten the odds and made it through the night.

We cleaned her eyes and administered the medications from the vet, then we took her outside to have breakfast with her friends. Much to my dismay she just tucked her head and went to sleep. However I did get hopeful when my daughter went out to clean out the night house a few hours later and reported that Rosie was eating some mash.

Alas, it was to be the 'last supper' for our Rosie, who died in the afternoon surrounded by her friends and family both feathered and otherwise. Her suffering is at last over.

What a year for losses 2013 has been for our family; first our much longed for baby died in utero, then our bees and finally (like a last kick in the bum on the way out the door) our Rosie.
