Cue 'The Wind'

It was almost as if they knew that we were no longer in possession of a chainsaw because the night after it left, the Summer easterly winds arrived. They blew all night and continued on into the following night. Today I awoke to find we had two, big, fallen branches to clear and all without a chainsaw - oh joy.

Now I am a firm believer in thinking positively - you know when life sends you lemons make lemonade, or in this case when life sends you fallen branches make firewood and mulch.

Yes, this years home and garden investments included a secondhand mulcher that we bought from our neighbour who was downsizing.

Our indispensable mulcher takes branches up to 9cm in diameter as well as leaves and sticks and turns them into mulch.

Purchasing the mulcher really was a no brainer for us. Not only does it support our recycling ethic but it saves us a fortune as mulch does not come cheap at almost $50 a trailer load. Jamie and I crunched the numbers and after it had produced twenty trailer loads of mulch the mulcher would have paid for itself.

Our homemade mulch works well to suppress weeds and retain mulch around the rose garden.
