Homegrown Chicken For Dinner

When it came to cooking and eating 'Red ', I have waited for a few weeks to go by.

The chicken run once more has become a peaceful haven, where all can wander free and without fear and this has helped us to reconcile our sad feelings over the loss of Red.

I am normally a pretty good cook, especially when it comes to roast dinner but I roasted the carcass for far too long and this dried the meat out (I have never roasted a chicken without the skin before). Still the children ate without complaint, even though our son went to great lengths to constantly remind his younger siblings that we were eating 'Red'.

If I am honest, it was hard eating the rooster we knew and loved and secretly I am hoping that there are no more roosters among the flock. I am fairly sure the rest of the family feels the same way too!
