5. Spring is in the Air

Spring Is in the Air

The promise of spring (albeit a little late with all this rain)is definitely in the air and the almond tree has begun to blossom.

My July gardening efforts(before my unfortunate ice-skating accident) were mainly focused on the vegetable garden.

I planted broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage seedlings and then constructed two nifty frames out of bamboo and old tent poles to support two old tulle mosquito nets that I have saved for preventing the cabbage white butterflies from turning my seedlings into their nursery.

With the frames finished Jamie and I proceeded to turn the house upside down looking for the nets, to no end. On cue of course the cabbage white butterflies arrived.

My relief, when after about a week my husband finally remembered where he put the nets, was huge, although with the head-start the cabbage whites got we may just be a creating a 'prison' for what will turn out to be the best fed caterpillars this side of the black stump.

Only time will tell.
